Community & Artist-Led Performance
Since 2014 I have worked with varying arts organizations, often ones who serve adults and children with disabilities. Through this work, I have honed a process in which artists come together to make something original and share their voice.
From 2020-2025, I was the Program Director and Lead Teaching Artist at the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota, where I founded their theater and arts programming. I crafted classes such as “physical comedy”, “shakespeare club”, and an acting troupe that worked on original plays and adaptations. During my time at DSAMn, we adapted classics like A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2024) and Romeo and Juliet (2023). We created original works by the group including a performance entitled Spicy Meatballs (2021), a collaboration with Interact for the Franconia MN Fall Festival (2022), and an original devised work Magic Goes Wrong at HUGE improv theater (2024). In 2025 I partnered with a playwright with Down syndrome, Caroline Gary, to help her write her play Trouble in Paradise which premiered at The Hive Collaborative Theater.
From 2014-2017 and 2021-2023, I worked as a substitute instructor at Interact Center for Performing and Visual Arts in St. Paul, Minnesota. Over a course of several months in 2022, along with collaborator Phoebe Mol, we led a group of ten artists with developmental disabilities in creating large-scale puppets that performed at the Uniquinox summer festival at Interact. This was an exciting opportunity for visual artists in the program to get experience performing with puppets during this sunny outdoor festival!
